The youth office is the central coordinating office of all the youth activities in the Archdiocese. The office is divided into two main programmes namely: The Archdiocese Youth Activities’ Program (AYAP) and the Archdiocese Youth Educational Services (AYES). Each of the two programmes has a coordinator who works under the guidance of the Archdiocesan Youth Chaplain to whom they also report.
The AYAP programme coordinates activities of the youth from all parishes within the Archdiocese. These activities include retreats and recollections, meetings of youth leaders from the parish, deanery and Archdiocesan levels, drama, music and sports festivals. Other additional activities include those outlined in the annual calendar of the Archdiocese. AYAP programme assists in the animation and facilitation of such activities and any other requirement arising from such activities.
The second programme, AYES, is the value education branch of the youth office. The main focus of the programme is the inculcation of timeless values to the youth in high schools and higher institutes of learning. The facilitators in this department organize moments of learning, discussions, debates and spiritual encounters such as Eucharistic celebrations, confessions, meditations and retreats. The values taught aim at producing young people who are emotionally mature, physically strong, mentally alert and spiritually powerful. The department aims at bridging the gap of value education that exists in many institutions of learning. The society and the Church need a generation capable of promoting and sustaining positive and ethical change within all the structures of service with the human person at their centre.
