The youth office is the central coordinating office of all youth activities in the Archdiocese. Youth, considered both as a stage and also as a certain portion of the population, is a very important part of Society and of life. As a stage, it has to be navigated with a great deal of care and everything given and done with and for those in that stage is inevitably an invaluable investment for the future not just of the church but also of the society/world. The Archdiocese, therefore, recognizes and appreciates her role in ensuring an integral formation of the young people.
The Archdiocese of Nairobi youth encompasses young people from 13 years to 35 years. In order to better minister to them in regards to the specific needs of their stage in life, they are divided into three pastoral structures:
- Missionary Youth Movement (MYM): 13-17 years
- Youth Serving Christ (YSC): 18-26 years
- Young Catholic Adults (YCA): 27-35 years
The vision of the office is: To enhance the spirituality of the young people and to improve the quality of their lives.
The mission is: To fulfill the mission of Christ through evangelization and promotion of integral human development. “Go out into all the whole world and proclaim the good news to all creation.” (Mk 16:15)
The activities coordinated by the youth office include retreats and recollections; meetings of youth leaders from the parish, deanery, zonal and archdiocesan levels; drama and music festivals; and sports. The office also works to empower the young people through seminars and workshops and through identifying and establishing opportunities and partnerships that help to improve the quality of their lives.
