Education Department

The Education Office operates under the guidance of the Education Advisory Board chaired by the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi.

Its daily operations are directed by the Education Secretary working with other staff.

The mission of the Catholic Church as mother and educator is precisely to evangelize; her ministry strives to provide Holistic Education, which is informative, formative and transformative. This is done with emphasis on Christian values, pastoral care, character formation and academic excellence.

The Office liaises with the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops – Commission for Education and Religious Education, to achieve this mission in the various programmes.

These programmes aim at capacity building and faith formation of learners, teachers, deputy head teachers and principals, school Boards of Management and other stakeholders. They also emphasize on the effective teaching of CRE/PPI in schools; raising awareness on issues of Child Safety and Protection, and how to detect and handle cases of abuses among the learners.

Learners are prepared in their tender ages to make mature and responsible choices in life.

Some of these programmes include:

  • Catholic Pastoral Awareness Programme (CAPAP);
  • Christian Religious Education (CRE) In-Service;
  • Child Safety and Protection Programme;
  • Making Life’s Responsible Choices (MLRC);
  • Holistic Pastoral Care Programme (HPCP);
  • Catholic Secondary Principals Association (CaSPA);
  • Religious Education Awareness Programme (REAP);
  • Young Christian Students (YCS) Movement among Secondary, College and University Students.

The Department also organizes other events, namely:

  • Annual General Meeting for education stakeholders: head teachers, principals, board members, and Priests among others.
  • Archdiocesan Education Walk
  • Archdiocesan Catholic Education Day
  • Workshops and Recollection days for members of boards of schools, principals, head teachers, teachers and members of Archdiocese education advisory board.
  • Students council members and Pupils Government symposia.

The Office also works in collaboration with Teachers Service Commission (TSC), Ministry of Education, Science and Technology through County Education Boards of Kiambu and Nairobi Counties, which are within jurisdiction of the Archdiocese. Together with the Ministry we ensure that suitable persons are nominated and appointed to the board of managements of both primary and secondary schools. The office ensures that TSC appoints suitable heads and teachers in Basic Education institutions. In addition, the office ensures that all Catholic schools within the Archdiocese are managed according to the laid down policies by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops and the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology.
