THE ARCHDIOCESE CELEBRATES SAINTS JOACHIM AND ANN
Over 600 men and women were commissioned as members of Saints Joachim and Ann group in the Archdiocese of Nairobi in a ceremony led by the Apostolic Administrator Bishop David kamau.
During the celebration, the Archdiocese launched the grandparents and elderly day following the declaration by the Holy Father, Pope Francis, that every fourth Sunday of July be a time to celebrate the elderly members of the society.
During the Eucharistic celebration, his Lordship urged all Christians to remember their old parents and help them in their old age.
As individuals we all have a role to play in the growth of the society. Bishop Kamau called upon all Christians to encourage the elders in the society to continue holding on to Christ while according them the respect they deserve, “our parents provide joy and comfort in our lives,” he stated.
Speaking in the same function, Fr. Simon Warari who is the Archdiocesan Saints Joachim and Ann ecclesial group, encouraged the members to stay firm in faith as the grandparents of Jesus did. He called upon the new members to maintain the unity of the group for future posterity.
Saints Joachim and Anne devotional group was started in 1964 at Riara parish with the first 18 members being commissioned.
