Bishop David Kamau, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi has been appointed as the Apostolic Administrator of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru. This follows the installation of Archbishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba as the new Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kisumu. Archbishop Muhatia has been the bishop of Nakuru Diocese for a period of 12 years.
The announcement of Bishop David Kamau’s appointment was made by the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and Southern Sudan, His Grace Archbishop Hubertus Matheus Maria Van Megen, during his closing remarks at the end of the installation ceremony at the Tumsifu Centre in Milimani, Kisumu County.
Speaking to the Archdiocesan Communications Team during the celebration of the Solemnity of St Joseph and a fundraiser of the Catholic Men Association (C.M.A) project in Kamulu, His Lordship said, “Being an Apostolic Administrator is a service to the people. It is a responsibility I will carry faithfully to guide the priests and Christians to build the diocese and the faith.”
Bishop Kamau had served as the Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Nairobi after the retirement of John Cardinal Njue on 4th January 2021. He held this position for ten months until the appointment of Archbishop Philip Anyolo. His Lordship continues as the Auxiliary bishop of Nairobi even as he starts on his new appointment in Nakuru diocese.
