The Christian fraternity of the Archdiocese has marked two years since the demise of the third Archbishop of Nairobi, Archbishop Raphael Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki in a celebration of Mass at the Holy family Minor Basilica.
In the memorial Mass presided over by Archbishop Philip Anyolo and co-celebrated by Archbishop Emeritus, John Cardinal Njue and scores of priests, the late prelate was once again eulogized as a selfless leader, one who spoke his truth no matter how difficult the situation or the circumstances were.
In the Homily, Fr. Anthony Mwituria – former procurator of the Archdiocese of Nairobi said, “archbishop Ndingi spoke his truth. He said what needed to be said, regardless of what people said he stood up for the truth even in most difficult circumstances. Not just in public but also in private conversations. This is a true reflection of Christ who was fearless even knowing that his words would endanger his life but no situation would adulterate his truth of who he was”.
Archbishop Ndingi’s strict nature saw him uncompromised in matters of faith and morals, standing up to politicians to preserve the dignity and honor of citizens especially in general elections.
Christians were challenged to live such a life by representing God in the current times through actions that others may see and learn of God.
Archbishop Ndingi died at the age of 89. He is buried in a crypt in the basement of the Holy Family Minor Basilica where Archbishop John Njenga is also buried. He was the Ordinary of the Archdiocese of Nairobi from 1997 until his retirement in 2007.
