A NEW PARISH IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NAIROBI
Archbishop Philip Anyolo has created a new parish. He elevated Our Lady Consolata church, an outstation of St. Joseph Mukasa Kahawa West Parish into a parish. This brings the number of parishes in the Archdiocese of Nairobi to 115 and the eleventh parish in Ruaraka deanery
Fr. Calisto Nyagilo, the Judicial Vicar Archdiocese of Nairobi was appointed as the first father in charge.
During the inaugural celebrations on 28th May 2022, His Grace who was the main celebrant to this occasion called on Christians to take care of their parish by providing for all its needs. He reminded them that the church is only existent as its people. He said, “A new church means responsibility. Ensure your Church is clean and has proper vessels of worship, books, and even vestments. It is your duty as Christians to ensure the charisms of the church are followed and that there is no introduction of alien things that ends up destroying the foundation in which the church is built” he continued.
The event was well attended by the Christians of the new parish and those from the mother parish; St Joseph Mukasa Kahawa West parish.
The Archbishop congratulated the missionaries, for providing spiritual nourishment to the Christians and for ensuring harmonized structures for the operations of the new parish. He further called on them to work together in growing the faith of Christians in the Archdiocese. He said, “You are the strong foundation to this parish, the Christians are the stones. The Church needs us all to be able to stand.”
Our Lady Consolata Church was started in 1993 under the leadership of a Consolata missionary the late Fr. Thomas Barbelo. It has been an outstation of St. Joseph Mukasa Parish, Kahawa West for 48 years. This new parish is now under the Diocesan priests with Fr. Boniface Mburu as the Assistant Fr. – in- Charge.
