FINANCE COUNCIL MEMBERS IN THE ARCHDIOCESE COMMISSIONED
The Archdiocesan Finance Council has Commissioned members of the Parish Finance Council from the 120 parishes in the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Their term of office will be five years. The parish council is composed of the Fr. In charge, parish moderator, parish treasurer, and three other members of the laity with a background in law and accounting competencies and skills.
During the inauguration, the members were reminded of the importance of stewardship and urged to embody the role of responsible stewards, dedicated to the common good of the church and its congregation.
Honesty as the cornerstone of service, the spirit of professionalism, and a deeper understanding between council members and priests were highlighted as critical values in managing and in fostering a thriving and transparent Church community.
The responsibilities and duties of the council members are;
- Help the Father-in- charge in the administration of temporal goods in the parish.
- Approval of diocesan acts in the management of temporal goods.
- Proposing new policies and legislation for the better management of temporal goods.
- Overseeing the diocesan acts related to the management of temporal goods.
- Draw up a clear and accurate inventory and asset register of the parish on both moveable and immovable goods. Have the relevant documents and titles to be in line with the assets.
- Ensure goods placed under their care do not perish.
- Be vigilant in taking care of the goods (Identify risk management in the parishes and mitigation techniques).
- Ensure ownership of ecclesiastical goods is in accordance with civil law. Relevant documents are in order.
- Ensure there is compliance with canonical and civil requirements.
