MEMBERS OF THE CHOIR TRAINED ON GUIDELINES OF LITURGICAL MUSIC
Choir leaders from all 120 parishes across the Archdiocese of Nairobi gathered at Queen of Apostles Parish in Ruaraka for a seminar focused on liturgical music guidelines. Organized by the Liturgy Office, the seminar emphasized the importance of adhering to these guidelines to enhance the quality of liturgical music within the Archdiocese.
Speaking to the leaders, Fr. Bernard who is the Archdiocesan Liturgical Coordinator highlighted various guidelines that need to be followed by the choirs in the Archdiocese so as to uphold the sanctity of performing prayers through songs by adhering to the original liturgical purpose.
The Commission for Liturgy is tasked with initiating liturgical formation for all choirs across the Archdiocese in alignment with the 2023 — 2028 Archdiocese strategic plan. This training aims to equip choirs with a profound understanding of their ministerial role in liturgical celebrations, as outlined in the KCCB pastoral guidelines on the celebration of the liturgy in the Dioceses of Kenya.
In line with the teachings of Musicam Sacram, a document issued by the Vatican II Fathers on 5th March 1967, the seminar underscored the elevated nature of liturgical worship when celebrated in song. The Vatican II Fathers emphasized that the participation of both ministers and the congregation is vital, as music enhances the expression of prayer, reveals the hierarchical and communal aspects of the liturgical mystery, fosters unity through the harmony of voices, elevates minds to the divine, and offers a glimpse of the heavenly liturgy in the New Jerusalem.
