ARCHDIOCESE OF NAIROBI HOLDS THE FIRST TEACHER’S DAY
His Grace, Archbishop Philip Anyolo has called on teachers to contribute to humanity’s growth by evangelizing through their teaching profession. This call he made during the inaugural mass of the first teacher’s day in the Archdiocese
He expressed gratitude to teachers for their unwavering support in evangelization efforts, transforming archdiocesan centers into places of excellence. “A shepherd must feel the smell of his sheep,” he emphasized, underscoring the importance of being in touch with those they serve. He further encouraged teachers to find ways to enhance evangelization efforts in children, reminding them that their behavior should serve as a model to their students, as advised by St. John de la Salle.
Prof. Stephen Mbugua, the Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, who was among the guests, emphasized the catalytic role of teachers in shaping learners and encouraged them to view teaching as a form of coaching, inspiring and guiding students toward excellence.
Rev. Fr. Francis Kiarie the Archdiocesan Education secretary while addressing the over 2000 people, expressed his joy from the huge turnout by schools. He also stated the event will be marked annually in celebration of the work teachers do in shaping tomorrow’s generation.
