The archdiocesan youth chaplain Fr. Edwin Hunja has urged the youth to be guided by a moral campus paused on self-criticism. This was during the annual national youth Mass which was hosted by the archdiocese at St. Mary’s Msongari grounds.
While giving the homily to the over 20,000 youths from all over the country, Fr. Hunja noted with concern the reluctance in today’s society to self-correct. He said, “it is easy to see the faults and weakness of others, but before you correct your brother and sister, first correct self. It is not easy to correct self, but we can always make an effort.” He further called on the youths to reflect by attending to their own faults and aim to imitate the image of Christ.
This national celebration was led by archbishop Philip Anyolo and concelebrated by bishop Joseph Mwongela of Kitui diocese who is also the KCCB Chair of the Commission for Pastoral and Lay Apostolate and over ten priests.
Archbishop Anyolo called on the youth to practice what they want to be and also what God calls them to be by being charitable, prayerful, forgiving and of good morals. He further advised them to choose leaders who will bring positive change. Bishop Mwongela acknowledged the role youths play in the continuity of the Church imploring them to, “open your hearts wide for Christ.”
This annual event was not held in the year 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. It provides an opportunity for the Catholic youths to commune as one, mingle and share for the growth of their faith and of the Church.
