“YOU ARE CALLED AND CHOSEN FOR A HIGHER CALLING, DEDICATE YOURSELF TO GOD’S PEOPLE,” PRIESTS AND RELIGIOUS MEN AND WOMEN TOLD.
The clergy and religious men and women in the Archdiocese of Nairobi have been told to heed the call of a greater responsibility given to them by God. These words were uttered by Archbishop Philip Anyolo during the Chrism Mass celebration held at the Holy Family Minor Basilica.
“We are called and chosen to a higher calling than us and to dedicate ourselves to the church and God’s people. Today is a reminder that as the disciples followed Jesus, ours also is to follow Him and serve as he did in His obedience to His Father’s Will and His love for the people,” he exhorted.
The basilica which was filled to capacity by men and women religious donned in their habits and vestments saw the pews of the church look beautiful as the celebration of Mass was lively.
His Grace Philip Anyolo, assisted by archbishop emeritus John Cardinal Njue consecrated the oil of Chrism, Catechumens, and oils of the sick. These oils are used in carrying out the ministry of the church. The religious and clergy also renewed their vows of obedience.
This period also marks some days towards the end of Lent, a period in which the church has been reflecting on the passion of Christ proceeding to His resurrection and ascension to Heaven. The guiding theme of this period of lent has been forgiveness and reconciliation.
