‘SET A GOOD EXAMPLE IN THE UPBRINGING OF CHILDREN,’ BISHOP KAMOMOE’S INPUT TO FAITH LEADERS AND EXPERTS IN AN ANTI-CORRUPTION CONFERENCE
Christians and citizens in general, have been called to set good precedence in the upbringing of children noting it is the genesis of where moral values are inculcated into adult life hence a way to curb corruption in the country.
These words were echoed strongly by His Lordship Simon Peter Kamomoe to the Faith Leaders and Experts in attendance during a conference organized by Loyola Centre for Media and Communication in partnership with the Catholic Justice and Peace Department, KCCB, and the Interreligious Council of Kenya on fighting corruption.
Echoing his words, Bishop Dr. John Warari an executive of the Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK) spoke vehemently on the need to be angry enough about the dangers corruption poses in the country and called all to form a movement. “The fight against corruption must be passionate and driven. We need to be disruptive and have a movement against corruption. We need to say NO to corruption.” He bellowed.
Bishop Kamomoe, who is also the chair of the Catholic Justice and Peace Department at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops(KCCB), further noted the efforts of the Catholic Church over the years in ensuring transparency at the core of its structure.
“The Catholic Church in Kenya has consistently spoken out against corruption, exemplifying our commitment to this cause. Our national anti-corruption campaign which was launched in October 2019 at the Marian Shrine in Subukia, themed “Breaking the Chains of Corruption,” symbolized the Conference’s determination to confront this societal threat. As faith-based communities, we need to continue being actively engaged in campaigns against corruption and in leading by example,” he said.
The conference-themed, “Faith Practice in Breaking the Chains of Corruption” saw various speakers from diverse backgrounds including the political and church arena discuss the various phases of corruption. It underscored the potential of all faith communities contributing significantly to anti-corruption efforts in a collaborated and united front.
This conference also served as an eye-opener to the issues at hand discovering the gaps that allow corruption to be integrated into the system. It highlighted the need for urgent intervention and a call towards concerted efforts of all stakeholders in fostering a corruption-free nation in the near future.
