A NEW CHAPEL BLESSED AND OPENED AT THE VINCENTIAN DAMASCUS HOUSE, KAMULU
The new Chapel of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal at the Vincentian community’s Damascus House in Kamulu was officially opened and blessed by His Grace, Archbishop Philip Anyolo. The event was well attended by representatives from various congregations, members of the Vincentian community, visiting leaders including Very Rev. Fr. Joseph S. William, CM (USA Province) and Very Rev. Fr. Edwin I. Mugwe, CM (Kenya Province) as well as numerous local Christians from Kamulu Parish.
This chapel marks a significant milestone for the Vincentian community, especially as they celebrate 400 years of their existence. Conceived as a dream four years ago by the novices, the chapel is dedicated to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in honor of St. Vincent de Paul, the founder of the Vincentian community. St. Vincent had a deep devotion to the Virgin Mary, and this chapel serves as a tribute to her humility and purity—qualities he wished his followers to emulate.
In his homily, Archbishop Philip Anyolo emphasized the importance of being Christ-centered, urging the congregation to draw closer to the Church. He stated, “The more we are united with the Church of Christ, the more we can overcome evil. This chapel is a reminder of your founders and what they represented.”
He further encouraged the community, saying, “A house of formation means going back to the foundation and rediscovering the spirit of the founder. This spirit should guide and inspire us, helping us to actualize what they envisioned. The foundation of this formation is in God, and it should guide those who come here to reflect and discern their calling.”
The chapel stands as a place of reflection, prayer, and discernment, continuing St. Vincent de Paul’s vision for the Vincentian community. It serves as an inspiring symbol of faith and devotion for both the Vincentian community and the greater Kamulu Parish.
