CATECHISTS IN THE ARCHDIOCESE OF NAIROBI HOLD ANNUAL MASS TO MARK THE START OF CALENDAR YEAR
Catechists from the Archdiocese of Nairobi gathered at St. Patrick’s Parish, Thika, for their annual Mass led by His Lordship David Kamau, auxiliary bishop of Nairobi. This event marks the beginning of their calendar year and also serves as an opportunity for them to reconnect, share experiences, and reaffirm their commitment as teachers of Church doctrine.
His Lordship while giving the homily, encouraged the teachers to be hopeful even in the current times of uncertainties. “Let us pray to God this year of Jubilee, to give us hope. Despite difficulties, let us not lose hope because God is there. God appreciates you,” he said.
As key agents of evangelization within the Church and the wider community, the catechists received training on the Jubilee Year 2025 from the pastoral office, led by Rev. Fr. James Kinuthia. The session aimed to equip them with the knowledge needed to educate Christians and catechumens on the significance of the Jubilee Year, with a focus on repentance, acts of charity, and prayer—core aspects of this Holy Year.
Sr. Lydia Mahihu, the Catechists’ Coordinator in the Archdiocese, emphasized their vital role in spreading hope.
“It is our primary duty to bring hope to Christians, especially to those we catechize—our catechumens. Many preparing for baptism, Holy Communion, confirmation, or marriage encounter challenges along the way and may lose hope. As we guide them, we too are preparing ourselves for a pilgrimage, so that we may receive the graces expected in this sacred year,” she said.
