ARCHDIOCESE OF NAIROBI MARKS SECOND EDITION OF TEACHERS’ DAY
The Archdiocese of Nairobi has celebrated the second edition of Teachers’ Day with a vibrant Mass at St. Mary’s Msongari Grounds, presided over by His Grace Archbishop Philip Anyolo.
In the homily, Archbishop Anyolo urged teachers to work collaboratively and to view learners as “bridges, not burdens.” He emphasized the transformative nature of teaching, noting, “By touching others, you are also touched. Learners are opportunities. Always seek to improve yourself through being the best for them.”
The event’s guest speaker, Professor Laban Ayiro, Vice Chancellor of Daystar University, encouraged teachers to serve with dedication regardless of financial reward. He reminded them that their role extends beyond academics to moral and spiritual guidance. “You prepare students not only for exams but for eternity,” he said. “You are worthy because when you guide a child towards God, you are doing God’s work—don’t count your duty by the shilling.”

During the occasion, Archbishop Anyolo launched Saint John Baptist de La Salle as the patron saint of teachers and unveiled a special Archdiocesan teachers’ shirt to help identify educators within the Archdiocese.
Fr. Francis Kiarie, the Archdiocesan Education Secretary, praised teachers for their commitment, which he said has contributed to noticeable growth in morality among students in Archdiocese schools. He encouraged them to continue setting strong examples of faith and action.
