POPE LEO APPOINTS BISHOP SIMON PETER KAMOMOE, AUXILIARY BISHOP OF WOTE DIOCESE
Pope Leo has appointed Rt. Rev. Simon Peter Kamomoe, currently serving as auxiliary bishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Nairobi, as auxiliary bishop of the newly erected Catholic Diocese of Wote in Kenya.
The appointment was announced by the Holy See Press Office on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
Born on November 26, 1962, in Gatundu, Kiambu County, Bishop Kamomoe was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Nairobi on June 18, 1994. His priestly formation took place at Saint Mary’s Major Seminary in Molo, followed by philosophical and theological studies at Saint Augustine’s Senior Seminary in Mabanga and Saint Matthias Mulumba Senior Seminary in Tindinyo, respectively.
Throughout his ministry, Bishop Kamomoe has served in various pastoral roles. He began as assistant at Queen of Apostles Junior Seminary (1994–1995), and then served in several parishes including Thigio, Mang’u, Ndundu, and Saint Matia Mulumba in Thika between 1995 and 1998. He later served as parish priest of Our Lady of Fatima in Kiriko (1998–1999) and Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Kiambu (1999–2008). He also held the positions of vicar forane and member of the College of Consultors during this period.
Since 2008, he has served as the administrator of the Minor Basilica of the Holy Family in Nairobi and chaplain of the diocesan Family Pastoral Office.
On February 13, 2024, Bishop Kamomoe was appointed as an auxiliary bishop of Nairobi. He was consecrated on April 6, 2024.
His Lordship will join Bishop Paul Kariuki Njiru as his auxiliary in the service to the Christians of Wote diocese which was erected a diocese on 22nd July 2023 by the late Pope Francis.
