Archbishop of Nairobi Erects St. Madre Teresa and St. Rita Deaneries
Faithful rejoice as two new deaneries are created to bring the Church closer to the people.
Nairobi, Kenya – The Eastern Deanery of the Archdiocese of Nairobi has officially been divided into two new deaneries, a move that marks both growth and renewal for the local Church.
The decree of erection, signed by His Grace, the Archbishop of Nairobi, was formally read on Saturday by Bishop David Kamau during the Eastern Deanery Family Day held at Mary Immaculate Parish, Mihang’o.
The new structures are as follows:
St. Madre Teresa Deanery – Ruai
Dean: Fr. Wilfrend Atinda.
Parishes:
- St. Peter’s Parish (Ruai),
- St. Joseph Freinademetz Parish (Ruai),
- St. Vincent de Paul Parish (Kamulu),
- St. Monica Parish (Njiru),
- Holy Family Parish (Utawala), and the newly created
- St. John the Baptist Parish (Katua).
St. Rita Deanery – Embakasi
Dean: Fr. Peddy
Parishes:
- Christ the King Parish (Embakasi),
- Divine Word Parish (Kayole),
- Sts. Joachim & Ann Parish (Soweto),
- St. Daniel Comboni Parish (Utawala),
- Mary Immaculate Parish (Mihang’o), and
- St. Arnold Jansen Parish (Komarock).
Addressing the faithful, Bishop Kamau emphasized that the creation of the two deaneries was a pastoral response to the rapid growth of the Eastern region. “This step will enable the Church to be closer to the people and to respond more effectively to their spiritual needs,” he said.
The announcement was received with joy and thanksgiving by parishioners gathered for the Family Day celebration, marking a new chapter in the mission and evangelization of the Archdiocese. This brings the number of deaneries in the archdiocese to 17.
