CATHOLIC JUSTICE AND PEACE DEPARTMENT MARKS INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE WITH CALL TO LIVE PEACE INTENTIONALLY
Members of the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) of the Archdiocese of Nairobi gathered at Assumption of Mary Parish, Umoja, to commemorate the International Day of Peace with a solemn celebration of the Holy Mass, presided over by Bishop Simon Peter Kamomoe, Auxiliary Bishop of Wote Diocese.
In his homily, Bishop Kamomoe reflected on the theme of peace as a lived reality rather than a mere aspiration. He reminded the faithful that peace must be promoted and lived intentionally, cautioning that sin corrupts the human heart and mind, leading to division and conflict. “Christ came to restore the goodness we have lost,” he said, urging the congregation to allow the message of the Gospel to renew their hearts and guide their actions toward unity and harmony.
Reflecting on the state of social justice in the country, Bishop Kamomoe noted, “Lack of social justice is the cause of many upheavals, including the protests in Kenya by the youth. These are a result of deprivation and a lack of respect for human life and human dignity.” He encouraged Christians, on this World Day of Peace, to truly value peace by knowing and recognizing Jesus as the Prince of Peace.

Fr. Patrick Ndung’u, Director of CJPD, underscored the importance of making peace the foundation of all human interactions. “Without peace, everything else becomes vanity,” he said. “Let us make deliberate efforts to live, work, and promote peace — in our hearts, our homes, and our world.”
He further highlighted the department’s collaboration with partners such as the International Justice Mission (IJM) in rescuing and restoring dignity to those affected by injustice. Fr. Ndung’u reaffirmed CJPD’s continued commitment to fostering reconciliation, justice, and peace across communities.
