CATECHISTS IN NAIROBI ARCHDIOCESE GATHER FOR ANNUAL MASS
Catechists from across the Archdiocese of Nairobi gathered at St. Monica Catholic Parish, Njiru, in Ruai deanery for their annual Mass, presided over by the Archdiocesan Pastoral Coordinator, Fr. James Kinuthia. This celebration aimed at renewing their spiritual commitment and mission as they begun the new Pastoral year.
In the homily, Fr. Anselm Kamuyu challenged the catechists to align their personal Christian lives with the faith they teach, urging them to continually reorient their spiritual compass.
“Not all are called and mandated to be teachers of faith, but there is a reason why you are here today,” Fr. Kamuyu said. “Our work is to help others prepare for the Kingdom of God.”
He cautioned against becoming overly familiar with God at the expense of reverence, respect, and awe, noting that catechists must first live out the values they impart to others.
“We teach others, but forget to follow as Christians what is expected of us. We must nurture our private connection with God,” he added.
Fr. Kamuyu further urged the catechists to fully embrace their sacramental life and remain steadfast witnesses of faith.
“Reorient your compasses and give light to the smoldering fires,” he told them.
During the celebration, Saint Andrew Kaggwa, one of the Ugandan Martyrs, was officially inaugurated as the patron saint of catechists within the archdiocese.

The Mass also marked a leadership transition, with Fr. Moses Memia, Fr. In- Charge, Our Lady of the Rosary Parish, Ruku, appointed as the new Archdiocesan Catechists Chaplain, taking over from Fr. Anselm Kamuyu.
