ARCHDIOCESAN EDUCATION OFFICE HOLDS ANNUAL LEARNERS’ SYMPOSIUM
The Archdiocesan Education Office has held its 2026 Annual Learners’ Symposium, a two-day event hosted at Mang’u High School.
The symposium brought together more than 6,000 student and pupil leaders from Catholic-sponsored schools within the Archdiocese of Nairobi. The two-day event began with motivational talks led by Mr. Augustine James, popularly known as AJ, who sensitized learners on effective leadership skills and the importance of responsible student leadership.

On the first day of the symposium, pupil leaders were challenged by Fr. Isaac Njihia, Rector of Queen of Apostles Minor Seminary, to remain focused and disciplined. He reminded them that, “As leaders, you have to make some sacrifices today for a better tomorrow.”
On the second and final day of the symposium, His Grace, Archbishop Philip Anyolo encouraged learners to focus on three key pillars in their academic life: discipline, which builds character; excellence, which fosters achievement; and spiritual growth, which nurtures wisdom.

He also called on student leaders to promote harmony within schools across the Archdiocese, particularly as institutions continue transitioning from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Education (CBE) curriculum.
In his opening remarks, Fr. Francis Kiarie, the Archdiocesan Education Secretary, noted that “leadership is about service.” He added that the symposium is held annually to engage stakeholders directly, with the aim of inspiring and motivating young leaders. He also highlighted the themes for the year: for pupils, “A pupil leader faithfully formed as a builder of peace guided by Christ,” and for students, “A student leader faithfully formed as a builder of peace guided by Christ.”
The annual event aims to empower young leaders to embrace their responsibilities and grow in effective, values-based leadership within their institutions.
