ARCHDIOCESE OF NAIROBI LAUNCHES 2026 LENTEN CAMPAIGN
The Archdiocese of Nairobi has officially launched the 2026 Lenten Campaign at Christ the King Parish in Githurai under the theme: “Building a Just, Peaceful and United Kenya: Upholding Equity and Human Dignity.”
This annual campaign sets the tone for the Lenten season for Christians within the Archdiocese and across the country. While each diocese conducts its own activities, the sensitization process is guided by the Catholic bishops of Kenya.
The launch was led by Bishop David Kamau, Auxiliary Bishop of Nairobi, Catholic Justice and Peace(CJPD) Director, Fr. Patrick Ndung’u alongside priest’s chaplain and hundreds of faithful who participated in a walk followed by celebration of the Holy Mass.
In the homily, Bishop Kamau reminded Christians of the deeper meaning of Lent and the responsibility of Christians as citizens during this reflective season.
“This season provides us with an opportunity to rediscover our journey as citizens of our beloved country and, more importantly, as committed Christians,” he said.
The Lenten Campaign spearheaded by the Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD) highlights social injustices and advocates for accountability, transparency, equitable resource distribution, and the protection of human dignity.
His Lordship emphasized the importance of these values as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.
“As we gear up towards the country’s elections next year, it is important for us to remind ourselves and our elected leaders to put into action the values we profess. Our words must match our actions,” he noted.

He called on leaders to prioritize access to public services and infrastructure through adequate funding. He also urged greater stakeholder involvement in education policy and curriculum development, as well as the need to ensure that the Social Health Programme remains accessible and effective for all citizens.
Additionally, the bishop encouraged those in authority to address long-standing public concerns and foster accountability in both public and private institutions.
“I urge our leaders to be deliberate in creating an environment, institutions, and policies that strengthen justice, uphold human dignity, and promote the rule of law,” he said.
As the nation moves closer to the next general elections, Christians have been encouraged to remain prayerful and vigilant in choosing leaders who embody humility, integrity, and servant leadership.
Through the Archdiocesan Catholic Justice and Peace Department (CJPD)Coordinator, Mr. Simon Muiruri, Lenten sensitization trainings will be across all 127 parishes within the Archdiocese.
