ST. TERESA OF CALCUTTA- DEANERY RUAI CELEBRATE THE FIRST FAMILY DAY
Bishop Peter Kimani of Embu Diocese led the celebrations to mark the inaugural Family Day of St. Teresa of Calcutta Deanery – Ruai, with the Holy Mass held at St. Peter Parish, Ruai.
St. Teresa of Calcutta Deanery was formed from the defunct Eastern Deanery alongside St. Rita Deanery, Embakasi.
This celebration brought together the clergy, men and women religious, parish leaders and lay faithful from St. Vincent Parish, Kamulu; St. Monica Parish, Njiru; St. Joseph Freinademetz Parish, Ruai; St. Stephen Parish, Katua; Holy Family Parish, Utawala; and the host parish, St. Peter’s Ruai.
In the homily, Bishop Kimani drew inspiration from the life of St. Teresa of Calcutta, urging the faithful to recognize opportunities to serve people experiencing poverty, suffering, loneliness and exclusion within their communities.
He said Christian love should go beyond words and be demonstrated through compassion, action and service. He further encouraged members of the deanery to practice good neighborliness and create, parish communities to be places where God’s love can be experienced through their daily interactions with others.
Speaking during the celebration, the dean, Fr. Wilfred Atinda, called on the Christians of the six parishes to strengthen collaboration and unity within the deanery.
The celebration was held under the theme; “One Family of God, United in Faith and Charity,” with the life and service of St. Teresa of Calcutta providing the central reflection for the gathering.
