ST MICHAEL’S PARISH LANGATA CELEBRATES FAMILY DAY
St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Lang’ata, celebrated its annual Family Day with Archbishop Philip Anyolo, Metropolitan Archbishop of Nairobi, calling on parishioners to remain united in faith, prayer and service.
His Grace presided over the Mass celebration, concelebrated by scores of priests among them Fr. John Oscar, Fr. In -Charge, and Fr. George Mungai, Assistant Fr. In Charge. During Mass, 24 candidates received the Sacrament of Confirmation marking a huge step in the maturity of their faith.
In his message, the Local Ordinary commended the parish for maintaining a strong sense of identity and urged them to keep up the spirit of togetherness.
“Don’t lock anybody out,” Archbishop Anyolo urged, emphasizing the importance of synodality and calling every Christian to participate according to his or her ability in the growth of the Church.
The Archbishop also addressed challenges facing the society, including poverty and political tensions, urging Christians to remain prayerful and committed to holiness amid difficulties.
He cautioned the faithful against allowing politics or other divisive interests to interfere with peace and unity, stressing the need for Christians to protect peaceful coexistence and remain firmly rooted in the Catholic faith.
This Parish was established in 1976 by the Guadalupe Fathers. It began with Masses celebrated under a tree at the present grounds before parishioners acquired a tent and later worshipped at a private compound in Ngei Phase One. With support from missionaries, parishioners and the late Cardinal Maurice Otunga, the community eventually constructed its first church.
It has since expanded its pastoral activities and infrastructure. It currently has 12 Small Christian Communities, 11 weekly Masses. Its sacramental ministry includes 107 infant baptisms, six adult baptisms, 11 First Holy Communion celebrations and 36 marriages among other accomplished milestones.
With more than 200 Catholic Women Association members, the parish continues to grow as it works towards completing its new church and awaiting its major celebration come next year for their 50years of existence.
